Senior Business Analyst Job in Toronto, Ontario Canada

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Business Analyst is responsible for assisting with research and analysis leading to the definition of requirements and processes to assist in the resolution of complex business problems for ScotiaLife Financial.

Working with the Bank, Insurance Canada Business Units and/or third parties, you will assist in and manage systems related projects through all phases of the project lifecycle including requirements & recommendations, installation, system configuration, customization, testing, training and production implementation in accordance with Bank standards and Business Units objectives.

Projects are highly complex, multi-divisional\faceted and high profile.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1.Participate in identifying/initiating new projects/business systems/procedures by:

  • Assists the Senior Manager/Project Manager by conducting research and analysis, and accurately and clearly defining user requirements and processes for well-defined tasks to assist in the resolution of problems to meet the business needs of ScotiaLife Financial. This may involve participation in rapid prototyping, with requirements and solutions developed on an iterative basis that provides interim deliverables until a final production solution is created
  • Participate in the systems implementation process by assisting in the development of test cases and the conducting of testing, assisting in the definition of user procedures and workflows, assisting in the development of conversion and implementation strategies, and assisting in the provision of user documentation, user training, and post-implementation support.
  • Assist in the provision of business support to all units, including new and existing product, ad hoc queries and MIS, user training, and assisting with the design and implementation of systems enhancements. This is made more challenging due to differences in time zones and the variation in the business lines
  • Detailed Operational Requirements Document (TO BE), prototypes are documented and agreed to by business lines/delivery channels
  • Monitoring/reviewing design during development phase
  • Actively seeking opportunities for improvement.

2. Manage projects by:

  • Identifying all deliverables, activities and dependencies; developing milestones and setting priorities;
  • Coordinating activities, conducting meetings;
  • Motivating and focusing efforts ensuring project is moving ahead and on schedule;
  • Monitoring progress against schedule timeframes;
  • Ensure that requirements are clearly, accurately and thoroughly documented and understood either for system changes and/or process changes and that there is value and consistency added to the customer experience
  • The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that management is kept informed and that problems and issues are escalated appropriately

3. Evaluate changes and assess their impact by:

  • Conducting needs analysis/analyzing recommended changes;
  • Preparing workflows/procedures to ensure new functions are integrated into operational environment;
  • Ensuring proper determination of workflow effort differences between existing and recommended;
  • Identifying areas for improvement, assessing cost efficiency and risk;
  • Ensuring proposed solutions fit platforms, security standards and develop new standards as needed;
  • Evaluating initiatives of other departments to assess their impact on the operations and plan, and escalate for appropriate action.

4.Ensure UAT for new systems/enhancements is completed on schedule and meets application and operational requirements by:

  • Ensuring methodology documents are prepared (e.g. requirements doc., design specification doc., acceptance testing specifications; UAT completion reports; operational procedures; sign off doc.);
  • Preparing comprehensive test strategies and test functions;
  • Co-ordinate with other departments to ensure support for the UAT test schedules and end-user involvement;
  • Reviewing/auditing results;
  • Ensuring all issues raised during testing are resolved;
  • Obtaining final signoff before implementation;

5.Provide support and ensure that end-users/banking operations/other groups are fully aware of the changes made to the systems by:

  • Providing clear descriptions of the systems changes made, and the overall impact of the changes;
  • Providing clear, detailed instructions for processing or distributing information;
  • Ensuring that manuals are updated in a timely manner;
  • Providing follow up training to staff/end users;
  • Acting as ongoing resource and provide support as necessary upon completion.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of Insurance (Life and General) products
  • Strong skills in all facets of process engineering and design (strategy processes, business performance management, facilitation skills, improvement methodologies, change management, process management, business assessment)
  • Excellent human relation skills and a flexible style are critical to the successful execution of this mandate

EDUCATION AND ACCREDITATIONS:

  • A recognized under-graduate degree in business, computers, economics, mathematics or a related discipline.
