Director – Credit Risk Audit Job in Toronto, Ontario Canada
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Vice President, Credit Risk Audit, you will lead a team responsible for evaluating the design and operation of internal controls for credit risk management for projects/processes/units across the Bank.
You will provide independent assurance over the integrity of risk ratings and the adequacy of specific provisions in the portfolios being audited. You will identify emerging issues and trends in portfolio quality and risk and where internal control deficiencies are identified you will negotiate appropriate corrective action and follow up. You may also be asked to provide guidance on the design of internal controls.
You will typically be leading a team of 2- 5 persons.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Audit Execution
- Execute assigned audit activities independently as an Officer in Charge on assignments with medium to high complexity
- Evaluate the adequacy of system design and internal control framework in meeting business, operational and control objectives.
- Be able to manage multiple priorities concurrently.
2. Problem Identification
- Identify and assess control weaknesses (including their root causes) and provide practical recommendations how they can be mitigated.
- Review audit findings from other participants for presentation to management.
- Negotiate appropriate corrective action with management.
- Follow up on open issues in the Issue Tracking Database for timely resolution.
3. Reporting
- Prepare Audit Issues and Loans To Which Attention is Directed (LTWAID) Reports for presentation to management.
- Prepare Audit Reports which provide your assessment of the unit’s level of internal controls.
4. Self/Staff Development and Teamwork
- Prepare periodic and annual performance self-assessments, personal goals and objectives for measurement of performance, a career development and training plan and monitor quarterly for achievement/completion.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced staff and assist in team development by training, guiding and monitoring development of staff.
5. Internal/External Communication
- Maintain effective internal communication through the ongoing sharing and acquiring of information.
- Maintain effective communication with auditors and line management including appropriate handling of conflicts and issue resolution.
6. Special Projects
- Conduct special investigations and perform due diligence activities as assigned.
- Assist external auditors as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Fluently bilingual in English and Spanish
- Candidate will need to have at least 5 years of non retail credit risk experience.
- Prior credit risk management experience is required
- Ability to write clearly and concisely
- Ability to negotiate
- Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel
EDUCATION AND ACCREDITATIONS:
- Post-graduate degree and/or accounting designation required
OTHER INFORMATION:
- Travel will be required. Although efforts are made to plan in advance, requests to travel will sometimes be with short notice. Most trips are typically less than 3 weeks.
