Settlements Clerk Job in Toronto, Ontario Canada

POSITION SUMMARY:

The incumbent coordinates securities lending and trading activity and the receipt/delivery of bond, equity and money market items on, Clearstream and BoNY, and Brazil. Duties include ensuring settlement of loan / outright activity and collateral transactions in a timely manner and accurately monitoring collateral requirements on an intraday basis.

The incumbent provides customer service in accordance with Scotia Service Standards & Procedures and Complaint Resolution Procedures.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Execute all Securities Lending and trade settlement required to support GEF, Institutional Equity Trading, and BNS Global Treasury by:

  • determining location of existing positions using Anvil and ADP
  • receiving outright/lending/borrow information from settlement clerks and confirm with the trading areas which counterparty the deal is to settle with
  • entering or confirming activity in Bony, Clearstream, Brazil,or DTC on a value for value basis;
  • ensuring all reflective entries are passed automatically to ADP or journalled when required

2. Review daily reconciliations to ensure breaks are adjusted same day
Issuance and delivery of payment to counterparty and receipt and deposit of payment within the correct depositories

3. Perform administrative functions as required:
reconciliation of out of balance positions in a timely and accurate manner;
preparation of daily reports.

4. Balance money entries in the depositories, Bony Clearstream,DTC.

5. Assist in training/cross-training as necessary.

6. Provide a high level of customer service in accordance with Scotia Service Standards and Complaint Resolution Procedures by interacting with brokers concerning settlement of transactions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Thorough understanding of settlement conventions and related accounting functions as they pertain to settlements and securities lending.
  • In-depth knowledge of Clearstream, Bony, DTC
  • Solid understanding of Automated Data Processing
  • Strong organizational skills to ensure efficient and timely settlement of trades.
  • Strong judgement skills and ability to make decisions under pressure to eliminate any risk/exposure to the Bank.

OTHER INFORMATION:

  • This position is within settlements for both Europe and Brazil during the high season.
