Analyst, Credit Solutions – Credit & Syndications – 12 Month Contract Job in Toronto, Ontario Canada

Global Transaction Banking brings to the fore the Scotiabank Group’s capabilities in cash management, payments, trade finance and correspondent banking, and foreign exchange, as well as retail and self-service electronic banking products. Together, our people’s expertise and enthusiasm helps develop personal and integrated business solutions and deliver them to clients of all three business lines on a global basis.
A start-up area of Global Transaction Banking, the Credit & Syndications group is responsible for providing high quality credit solutions for the department’s Financial Institutions Portfolio.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As an Analyst, you will assist in the credit process by providing high quality credit solutions and related support through participation in the financial and risk analysis of accounts in the Financial Institutions (FI) portfolio.

NOTE: This opportunity is a 12 Month Contract

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

As the ideal candidate, you will:

  • Perform financial statement analysis and risk rating assessment (using MFA/MRA) as required by Bank policy/procedures
  • Monitor client compliance, early warning signals, external ratings, interim reporting and regulatory / political / country environment for assigned portfolio, escalating and performing risk rating re-assessments as required by Bank policy / procedures as required
  • Ensure client files are complete and up to date, and any required MIS systems are updated
  • Assist with analyzing, preparing and processing of credit requests, including new requests, amendments and annual reviews
  • Develop industry and product expertise
  • Assist with structuring and due diligence activities on deals as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Growing knowledge of all products and processes for risk assessment and for execution of transactions
  • An understanding of the Financial Services industry in various countries
  • Strong financial accounting knowledge
  • Demonstrate straightforward and succinct identification and analysis of key risks of bank counterparties
  • Ability to conduct due diligence on assigned accounts
  • Experienced in conducting industry/client research
  • A professional approach in any client interaction
  • Flexible to demands of work
  • Promote cooperation and strong professional working relationships within the working unit, RM-FI teams, product groups, and Global Risk Management
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, with a rationale supporting recommendations and actions provided for client solutions
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency as appropriate to the situation
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; bilingualism in Spanish an asset
  • Ability to process required tasks and analysis with respect to annual reviews and new transactions in timely manner
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining high standards of work

EDUCATION:

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Business, or International Business

OTHER INFORMATION:

Support processes and procedures in this area of GTB are still under development. You will need to be flexible, fast thinking, and be able to cope with uncertainty in a constantly changing environment. Working with tight time frames is a common occurrence. Dealing with time-sensitive queries, often from different time zones, and changing priorities can be challenging.
