Process Design Manager, Finance Job in Toronto, Ontario Canada

POSITION SUMMARY:

Decision Support Services’ primary role is to work with the Bank’s finance community to redesign/re-engineer finance processes to enhance effectiveness and efficiency. The unit is also responsible for developing and implementing Financial/MIS applications services to meet the changing needs of Finance and the Bank. These applications have an enterprise-wide user community, and are an integral part of Finance’s performance measurement, reporting and control infrastructure. The purpose of this job is to provide process re-engineering and project management to the Finance Division. The incumbent contributes to Decision Support Services process redesign function, working with the finance user community and application developers to simplify processing, adopt best practices and improve internal controls in Finance. An important focus for process redesign is to enhance and accelerate the financial period-end close process. The incumbent draws on advanced knowledge of finance business processes, including reporting and MIS, to manage requirements analysis and solution design. The incumbent also contributes to deployment of common solutions that streamline the work of performance measurement units across the Bank. The incumbent works closely with other units in Finance, as well as Decision Support Services, to ensure that proposed solutions align with the strategic direction for Finance’s process and information technology platforms. The incumbent also provides project management to implement these solutions – which typically involve multiple systems and impact more than one area. He/she provides work direction and leadership to the project teams, which consist of business analysts and programmer/analysts. The Manager communicates project progress, as well as the status of issues that impact project scope, business value, risk and resource requirements. In addition, the incumbent provides a high level of professional service to the finance user community, within EO as well as the Business Line’s Finance functions, consistent with Finance Division standards.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Customer:

  • works with finance clients to analyse business processes, identify process re engineering opportunities and alternatives, and to prepare requirements documentation,
  • prepares business process maps and facilitates process requirements validation,
  • liaises between finance clients and application developers to provide detail requirements,
  • contributes to partnership solutions between EO Finance and the Business Lines Finance functions.

2. Operations:

  • standardizes process solutions to reduce cycle times and workload
  • facilitates and enhances transparent controls and accessible audit evidence
  • manages projects, including developing project plans with time and cost estimates, leading status meetings with the project team and communicating progress to stakeholders ensuring issues are being assigned and resolved
  • participates in the investigation and resolution of application problems.

3. People:

  • continuously develops professional skills
  • keeps abreast of process and technology developments which target finance and accounting communities
  • provides coaching to colleagues within a matrix team environment

4. Financial:

  • makes efficient use of resources (time, software, project budgets)
  • proposes cost efficient solution design alternatives

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 7+ years relevant experience
  • Advanced knowledge of financial and accounting concepts and processes
  • Advanced project management skills and advanced communication skills (listening, documentation, and, presentation skills)
  • Advanced analytical skills with solid knowledge of the requirements development process and solid knowledge of process mapping, solution design and change management techniques
  • Solid knowledge of MIS capabilities and financial applications such as ALM (Bancware), ERP (Peoplesoft, SmartStream), Financial Reporting (INEA/CARTESIS)
  • Good knowledge of BNS products & services & organization structure
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio & Project)

EDUCATION AND ACCREDITATIONS:

  • Accounting designation, ideally with a Computer Science degree or an MBA
