Senior Manager, Portfolio Measurement & Optimization – INTBK Job in Toronto, Ontario Canada

POSITION SUMMARY:

Scotiabank’s International Banking Term Deposits & Lending is seeking a Senior Manager, Portfolio Measurement & Optimization to join their team. Reporting to the Director, the Senior Manager is responsible for performing in depth analysis on the retail portfolio performance, identifying key trends within countries or products, and providing strategic advice on how to improve portfolio performance. The Senior Manager will also be responsible for department reporting of financial and business metrics, analyzing and managing the financial function of the business line, including profitability; forecasting and financial planning for the department and will be required to interact with senior level management within and outside the department.

You will also responsible for participating in the preparation of presentations to senior management and executives, monthly, quarterly, and on an ad-hoc basis. There is also a requirement to support queries from within the department, the sites and various departments for support, analysis or sharing of expertise.

The reporting and analysis team will be required to work closely with the Countries, Finance, BIS, Treasury and various stakeholders within Deposits and Services as well as the larger Deposits, Cards and EFS team. Business Information Systems and PISCO support is very important to ensure proper delivery and maintenance of monthly data to monitor performance.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:     

1. Preparing and presenting the monthly business line report:

  • Own the end-to-end development, production and presentation of monthly reporting to the Toronto executives, business line and key stakeholders.
  • Provide reporting to the various sites in the Caribbean supported by the department.
  • Ensure 100% accuracy and timeliness of reporting.
  • Participate in the development and become the department lead on the Product P&L statement. Work with finance and the PISCO team on the development of the P&L and become the department expert.
  • Own and manage the business metrics coming out of the MIS team and be the first point of contact on questions about the metrics from the field.

2. Developing profit and loss plans forecasts, including various specific metrics such NIAT, revenues, costs, new and net accounts, maturities and balances:

  • Own end-to-end development of department business plans. Work with the various sites and team members in Retail Products to compile the plan and assist senior management in understanding the plan.
  • Prepare monthly forecasts and commentary on the business.
  • Develop the department’s revenue plans, with input from the product team members and the pricing unit.
  • For non Scotiaglobe sites, work with Finance Toronto and the local finance departments to close any data gaps to ensure plans are complete and comprehensive.
  • Regularly present and review the plan with the VP’s products, the SVP Retail Products and other key IB senior executives.

3. Analyzing monthly reports, identifying areas of opportunities and providing in-depth analyses and recommendations:

  • Provide high quality, value added and timely analyses to the department and other stake holders.
  • Work collaboratively with direct report(s), the Directors Retail Products, the Senior Product Support Managers, Caribbean & Asia and Latin America, the PISCO and Finance Toronto teams and treasury to ensure the analyses are well grounded and useful to the various stakeholders.
  • Develop a formal network of business contacts in all the key sites, both finance and treasury, to assist with the rapid integration and examination of business issues arising for any analysis.
  • Preparing presentations to the VPs and SVP, as well as senior IB executives and stakeholders.

4. Participation in the preparation of executive presentations:

  • Assist management and executives in the preparation of executive presentations of current results and forecasts, as well ad-hoc issues and scenarios, which will require very rapid turnarounds.

5. Tracking and analyzing campaigns and initiatives:

  • Analyzing the various campaigns, initiatives and business cases, to ensure that we are tracking to plans, and meeting key success factors and milestones.
  • Determining campaign tracking and measurement, working with the MIS team.
  • Conducting due diligence reviews on M&A opportunities, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Fluency in Spanish is an asset due to the number of Latin sites supported by Retail Products.
  • Advanced, credible knowledge of banking retail products.
  • A solid understanding of financial metrics, segmentation, and industry drivers.
  • A thorough understanding of financial and management reporting principles as applied to banking issues; ability to sustain a broad-based knowledge of banking and business line strategy, operations, policies and procedures.
  • Experience in managing analytical and operational processes, and project management experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to work effectively in a team environment with peers and superiors across organizational lines and various countries/cultures.
  • A results-oriented individual, with excellent financial analysis, problem-solving, and organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and deliver high-quality results within specified time frames; continuously assess priorities and business requirements, and balance between regular deliverables and priority executive requests.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills capabilities in a complex and changing environment.
  • Excellent computer skills including competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and a working knowledge of data mining programs such as SAS.

EDUCATION AND ACCREDITATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field
